Nuestros hijos, ese misterio / Our children, that mistery

Zoe y el mar / Zoe and the sea
Obvio, sí. Cliché, sí.
Pero no por eso menos cierto.

Obvious, yes. Cliché, yes.
But not less true because of that.

EL PROFETA - Khalil Gibran

Tus hijos no son tus hijos
son hijos e hijas de la vida
deseosa de si misma.
No vienen de ti, sino a través de ti
y aunque estén contigo
no te pertenecen.

Puedes darles tu amor,

THE PROPHET - Khalil Gibran

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you.
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit,
not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward
nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.04-12-2011 Los misterios / The mysteries

  5. oh no, i just typed a long comment and then blogger gave me an error!

what i was saying, is that at first i read your title as "ministry" and not mistery/mystery. ...which got me thinking about children's ministries, and i love that poem. i am reading "The blessing of a skinned knee" right now and one important thing she notes is that we have children not for self-serving purposes, but so that when we are gone, there are people here to continue to worship god (if you believe in god). the point is that our children really aren't our own. i am working to remember/understand this. <3
